CropLife America Elects New Board Chair
SAN ANTONIO, TX – During their 2022 Annual Meeting, CropLife America (CLA), the national association representing the manufacturers and distributors of pesticides, elected Andy Lee, president and CEO, Valent North America, as its newest chair of the CLA Board of Directors. Lee will hold the position for two years and use his diverse background to help guide the association. Andy succeeds Paul Rea of BASF Corporation who led the board from 2020 - 2022.

CropLife America (CLA) and RISE (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment) support uniform, science-based, and predictable pesticide regulation conducted by scientists with years of expertise at the federal and state levels and appreciate continued support of these principles. The regulatory framework for pesticides – under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act and relevant state legislation across the country – is essential to supporting innovation and the safe use of pesticides in agricultural, public health, residential, commercial, recreational, and infrastructure settings on public and private property.
More Than 350 Organizations Voice Support for Existing Pesticide Law
WASHINGTON, D.C. - CropLife America (CLA) joined more than 350 organizations engaged with pesticide products in a letter sent to members of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives that affirms these organization’s support the pesticide regulatory system in place today under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). The letter is in response to recently introduced legislation (S. 3283) that would undermine the science-based standards contained within our nation’s pesticide law. This is the second time these organizations have reached out to Congress to voice concern over similar proposed legislation.

Pesticides play an important role in protecting public health, improving the sustainability of our food supply, and mitigating climate change. The Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act is the global gold standard in the regulation of pesticides because it establishes a rigorous scientific foundation to balance the risks and benefits of every pesticide on the market today. Legislation seeking to ban individual chemistries and politicize the regulatory process undermines both the work of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s career scientists and a long-standing law that serves our nation well.
New State Government Affairs Director to Head Industry Issues in the West

Agricultural Leaders Urge Farmers and Rural Communities to Get Vaccinated
Last week, more than 30 state and national agricultural organizations representing farm, commodity and agribusiness communities joined together to promote vaccination among farmers and other rural Americans. In an open letter to association members, the organizations added another voice to the call to get vaccinated. In addition, the groups utilized an opinion editorial published in the Des Moines Register to share a message about the important connection between agriculture, science, and health.
With a Continued Commitment to Sustainability, CropLife America Announces New Director of Environmental Sustainability
CropLife America (CLA) is excited to welcome Julie Savoie as the new lead of its environmental sustainability program. There is a largely unknown role that pesticides play in protecting the environment by allowing farmers to produce more food using fewer resources. Ms. Savoie will work with independent researchers and others to explain how pesticides enable regenerative farming practices such as no-till farming and cover crops. Pesticides play a crucial role in meeting climate goals, promoting biodiversity, growing more food and fiber, and ensuring food security.

Yesterday, the U.S. Senate confirmed Dr. Michal Freedhoff as the next Assistant Administrator overseeing the EPA’s Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention (OCSPP). Dr. Freedhoff's scientific background and education will be an advantage at the Agency and her extensive policy experience overlaps with the duties and functions of OCSPP.
