With a Continued Commitment to Sustainability, CropLife America Announces New Director of Environmental Sustainability

WASHINGTON, D.C. – CropLife America (CLA) is excited to welcome Julie Savoie as the new lead of its environmental sustainability program. There is a largely unknown role that pesticides play in protecting the environment by allowing farmers to produce more food using fewer resources. Ms. Savoie will work with independent researchers and others to explain how pesticides enable regenerative farming practices such as no-till farming and cover crops. Pesticides play a crucial role in meeting climate goals, promoting biodiversity, growing more food and fiber, and ensuring food security.

“We look forward to welcoming Julie to the CLA team as the director of environmental sustainability,” said Chris Novak, CLA president and CEO. “Her ability to navigate research, communication, and advocacy has led to a successful SmartLabel program that provided consumers greater transparency on how their food was produced. Julie’s understanding of agricultural and food sustainability will help CLA achieve the environmental sustainability goals that are a critical part of our strategic plan.”

Julie brings more than 15 years of experience in retail, food and agricultural sectors, with a focus on sustainability, marketing, business development and advocacy. Most recently, she led the SmartLabel program at the Consumer Brands Association (CBA), addressing digital transparency and the sustainability communication needs of the U.S. food and beverage, and consumer products industry. In her role at CBA, Julie engaged with industry leadership, state and federal officials, and regulatory decision-makers to achieve digital transparency, sustainability communication, and meeting regulatory compliance needs of CBA members.

A native of the Washington, D.C., Metro area, Ms. Savoie received her Master of Business Administration from Georgetown University and bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in Baltimore. Julie will join CLA on August 30.
