CLA, ASTA, and Growing Matters Coalition Joint Comments Highlight Importance of Seed Treatments

CLA, in coordination with the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) and the Growing Matters Coalition, submitted comments on EPA’s recently published updated occupational exposure risk assessments for seed treatment uses for neonicotinoids, clothianidin, imidacloprid, and thiamethoxam. The comments urge EPA to consider more realistic and refined data, submitted by stakeholders, to better inform a series of questions regarding cleaning, treating, loading/planting, and packaging scenarios for a variety of crops. Our comments also emphasize the vital importance of seed treatments in agriculture and stewardship programs which help educate farmers and pesticide applicators on the correct handling and management of seed treatment pesticides and treated seed.
