CLA and ASTA Joint Comments Highlight Importance of Thiram for Specialty Growers
CropLife America (CLA) and the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA) submitted joint comments to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the amended Proposed Interim Decision (PID) for thiram, which proposes canceling most commercial seed treatment uses due to potential occupational handler risks. The comments highlighted fundamental flaws in the EPA's occupational exposure model and argued that the proposed cancellation would be problematic for stakeholders and set a negative precedent. CLA and ASTA believe the cancellation would not benefit human health or environmental safety and emphasized the critical importance of thiram for the vegetable and specialty crop industry. The comments requested the EPA to consider more accurate information on worker exposure during commercial seed treatment applications.
