CLA Submits Dimethoate PID Comments

CLA submitted comments on the proposed interim decision (PID) for dimethoate, which included the proposed cancellation of several use sites such as asparagus, cottonwood, pecans, wheat, corn, soybeans, and various fruits and vegetables. CLA disagrees with the EPA's decision to cancel uses based on an incomplete risk-benefit analysis and insufficient ecological risk assessment. CLA supports EPA's use of a weight of evidence approach in evaluating the need for the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) tenfold safety factor and welcomed the inclusion of in vitro assays like developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) and other New Approach Methods (NAMs), which reduce animal testing in pesticide registration decisions.
