USMCA Beneficial For U.S. Agriculture and Fair Trade
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement’s (USMCA) entry into force marks a momentous event for the agriculture community. This historic agreement crafted by the President and U.S. Trade Representative will ensure farmer access to key markets throughout the continent.
“Agricultural trade policy is a critical issue for our member companies. Our business, and the business of our farm customers, is dependent upon open and fair trade. With the many challenges facing the farm economy, the stability of export markets is paramount,” Chris Novak, president and CEO of CropLife America said. “We applaud the inclusion of provisions that reinforce each member states’ obligation to make science-driven, risk-based regulatory decisions. We look forward to working with the Administration to ensure that future regulatory decisions reflect the spirit and intent of this modernized agreement.”
Canada and Mexico are the top export markets for U.S. agriculture, with more than a quarter of all U.S. agriculture and food exports going to our neighbors. The USMCA solidifies commitments to fair and science-based trade rules accepted by all member countries, and it will be crucial for all provisions to be enforced to recognize the full benefit of the new trade agreement.
