CropLife America Urges Congressional Action on 2024 Farm Bill to Support U.S. Agriculture
ARLINGTON, VA – Today, CropLife America (CLA) joined more than 300 national, state, and regional organizations to send a letter urging Congress to advance a meaningful Farm Bill within the current 118th Congress. The last Farm Bill passed in 2018 and was extended through September 30, 2024. Without urgent action, the coalition stressed that many farmers could face significant financial hardship in the coming years.
The letter expressed appreciation for the efforts made by Congressional committees to develop a bipartisan Farm Bill but urged leaders to build upon those proposals to address the pressing challenges facing U.S. agriculture. The letter notes that since the 2018 Farm Bill was signed into law, considerable gaps in the farm safety net have emerged, specifically noting trade and tariff challenges and supply chain issues related to COVID-19.
“With a projected agricultural trade deficit, rising production costs, and unpredictable weather, passing a strong Farm Bill is critical to the survival of family farms and the stability of rural communities across the country,” said Alexandra Dunn, CLA’s president and CEO. “This is not just about supporting farmers - it’s about helping ensure the sustainability of our food supply and the communities that rely on agriculture.”
