CropLife America Taps Internal Talent to Head Science and Regulatory Department

WASHINGTON, D.C. – CropLife America (CLA) is excited to announce the promotion of Dr. Manojit “Mano” Basu to vice president, science policy. Mano joined the association in May 2019, as the managing director of the science and regulatory department, bringing more than a decade of experience in the regulatory and research departments in food, pesticide, and biotech organizations. Prior to joining CropLife America, Mano was the vice president of regulatory affairs at the Grocery Manufacturers Association (now the Consumer Brands Association) where he led regulatory engagement efforts for the association. CLA has also recently brought onboard a U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) veteran, Edward Thomas, as CLA’s new deputy general counsel.

“Mano’s leadership on regulatory issues over the last several years has been outstanding. His approach has helped create opportunities to engage untraditional partners in both the food and NGO communities, resulting in partnerships that are effectively addressing the complex issues facing our industry. I’m looking forward to Mano joining our senior leadership team at CLA,” said Chris Novak, president and CEO.

Since 2018, the Science and Regulatory work at CLA has been under the leadership of Rachel Lattimore, general counsel and executive vice president, legal affairs. "Since his arrival at CLA, Mano has proven an invaluable part of the CropLife team, combining a keen understanding of science with strong communication and leadership skills. In this new role, he will further elevate the scientific engagement of CropLife America in our relationships with EPA and other domestic and global stakeholders," added Lattimore.

In addition, Edward Thomas joined CLA’s legal team this month. Edward comes to CLA from the DOJ where he served as a senior attorney in the Environment and Natural Resources Division.

“Edward’s broad experience in the DOJ’s Environment and Natural Resources Division will provide CLA with an important perspective as we face numerous challenges to our industry. We’re excited to welcome him on board,” said Lattimore.
